Patricia Kaas: "My song is romantic, but very powerful

di Eurosongitalia

Hello Patricia, can you tell us about the project Eurovision and how you became the French representative at ESC 2009?
Our broadcaster asked me, very kindly. At first I was surprised and then I understood how great could it be to represent my country!

Can you tell about your song?
It is about a woman who wants to keep her love alive. She is ready to do whatever she can for it: even to make the rain comes in the desert! It is a romantic but very powerful song.

Often at Eurovision we can hear easy listening songs. Do you have fear that your song, very beautiful and elegant, can not be well received by the audience?
No. Really. I mean that my song is universal in a way. But I know that they are songs which are easy to like, but mine is different, we have to listen to it. That is why I've made a translation of the lyrics in every language of Europe: patriciakaas.net/eurovision2009

What do you expect from Moscow experience?
I really come to Moscow to win. It is a competition after all!

How will be your exibition on the stage of Moscow?
Just the song, a dress and a microphone. This song does not need any else, I believe.

Do you think that the introduction of the juries will change anything?
Yes, I think so. They will bring a touch of professionalism, maybe that will judge the song more than the dresses or the dance...

In 1988, Celine Dion and Lara Fabian participated at ESC and then began their great musical career. You do the reverse, starting from a considerable and international reputation and millions of records sold. In this sense, what does it meaning being chosen to represent France, which since 2002 has not achieved significant results in the competition?
This is an achievment. After all this years of success, I feel very honoured to represent my country. Some say that I am the ambassador of the french chanson, it is time to prove it!

Before this year, did you know Eurovision Song Contest?
I watched it when I was a little girl. Dreaming of all this amazing singers, dreaming about these beautiful dresses, It was very important for me. I never thought that one day... I will be the one that little girls will look at.

If so, there's a song that you like particularly?
Abba of course, I love their songs, L'oiseau et L'enfant, last french songs to win the Eurovisiosong contest, but also a german one... I can't remember the name.

In recent years, many songs have focused much on the choreography to surprise the audience. Is it good or that might to overshadow the factor that should be at the root of contest, the music?
Well, This is Eurovision Song Contest, not Eurovision Dance contest! But every one is allowed to perform the way he likes. And the present times are made for performers more than pure singers. So...

You are very famous in France, but also in Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Canada, Russia, Finland, and Korea. Have you ever thought to bring your music in Italy?
It is difficult to answer this one! Maybe that my songs are not made for italian audience. So many great singers are italian, your country always loved songs and singers, is they're any place left for me? Tell me :-)

Have you ever been in Italy? What do you think about our country?
Do you know one person on earth who does not LOVE italy? Impossible! Your country is so beautiful, people are charming, men knows about love, food is great and culture, history are present everywhere... What else to say, Italy is a wonder!

What do you think about Italian music? There are Italian singers that you like?
Zucchero is a great blues singer, Eros Ramazotti is a star and back in the years 24000 baci by Adriano Celentano was and still is one of the greatest song ever! I love it!

Italy doesn't partecipate at ESC. What do you think about this?
I can't comment what I don't know. Was it a politic reason? The only thing is that it is a pity not to compete with italian singers. And never have a chance to go to Rome for ESC!

Have you heard the others entries? What do you think about your opponents?
Of course Alexander from Norway, his song is amazing! But the Turkish song is a great one for the dance floor, Jade and her song composed by Andrew Lloyd Weber and Ann Warren, Sakis Rouvas is a star in Greece and his song is strong, as it is for Noa... This year the competition is very strong.

After Eurovision, what are your future plans?
I will continue my Kabaret tour all over Europe, Israel, Korea, Bulgaria, Russia in October and then France for some additional dates... Holidays will come in 2010!

Thank you Patricia! You was very kind. Can you greet the Italian fans of Eurovision?
Thank you for your kind words.
Dear italians friends, I hope that you will enjoy this 2009 edition, and that soon I could come to Italy to sing for you. Love. Patricia
